Hello from CherriPicking!
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to CherriPicking.com blog!
We are delighted to have you here. We will be using this channel to share about organization’s news, product updates and some useful learning materials posted around the World Wide Web.
We do firmly believe that the path to success for us is not going to be flawless; we are going to make mistakes and we are going to learn from them. So, we ask for your support and understanding.
In our first blog, we are going to share: What We Do, Why we are doing what we are doing and How it works.
Let us start with sharing a story with you;
Vineet was a bright, intelligent and hardworking computer engineer from one of the premium technology institutes in India. Having worked in some of the greatest Fortune 500 organizations and leading critical technology development projects after being a programmer for a long time, he was an envious talent to have for many organizations.
When SunTech, a year old technology startup was able to attract him to be part of their team, it was a major breakthrough for them. The founders were elated to have Vineet on-board as their CIO and were certain that their technology development will get wings under Vineet’s leadership.
Vineet was a great team player, was driven and passionate about product and technology. He was extremely methodical, detail oriented and loved creating a perfect product even if it took longer time and higher cost.
When founders discussed and explained the agenda and set the expectations with Vineet on developing a ‘Beta’ version or a “Minimum Viable Product” (MVP) quickly with limited resources, to test the market, they found him to be in synch with their ideas.
Founders and Vineet would have regular meetings and discuss on business and product matters. Founders always emphasized the need to create an MVP quickly in order to test with select few users in the market. Vineet would share his idea of creating a robust plan so that development becomes easy and there are no loose ends once the plan is in place.
A couple of months later, when the founders meet with Vineet, he shares he has made significant progress in the plan and he will be starting the development work soon, and he is also looking to get a couple of mid-level developers on board for the development work. Founders reiterate the need for developing a ‘Beta’ version quickly even if it is ‘buggy’ and also stating the limitation of hiring high cost employees.
Months after Vineet joined, all the founders along with Vineet are having a serious discussion about Vineet’s future in the company. With a single code not being written yet, SunTech has lost significant time. Vineet is defending a robust plan and team being in place and ready for development and founders unwilling to give any further time.
After six months in SunTech, Vineet is leaving them. Everyone is disappointed and unhappy at SunTech. Founders blaming Vineet for being too slow in planning and execution, and Vineet blaming founders of not understanding the importance of detailed planning and working with limited resources and providing the required support.
Does this sound familiar?
So, what went wrong here? Why could Vineet, a super successful tech expert working in a large successful organization, not succeed in SunTech’s environment?
We are sure if we look around we will see many such examples. We would know cases where people quit because they cannot manage ambiguity or working with limited resources, did not like ‘after office hours parties’ or enjoyed working alone and were not comfortable with the open office environment and noise or “high energy environment” and many more.
At CherriPicking, we identify this as a role and cultural mismatch.
Most organizations hire for skills and experience that one has, but in many cases, fire for cultural misfit/mismatch. This has been happening for long, yet, we have not seen a solution that provides consistency and predictability in hiring the right fit candidate and when we say right fit, we mean right fit with the culture and identity of the organization and the role.
What we do?
In simple terms, CherriPicking helps improve quality of people hired by companies. We help organizations make informed and better hiring decisions, scientifically, by predicting culture fitment of a candidate with that of the Company, Role, Boss, and Team, along with predicting skills & experience fit.
The current process of candidate selection is not scientific and that is the reason for candidate-company, candidate-role mismatches that lead to employee disengagement, hiring inefficiency, undesired attrition, and team conflicts.
Our assessment tool, PERFECT (PERsonality Fitment Estimation and Comprehension Tool), helps in scientific and data-driven decision making, that in turn helps remove biases, brings predictability and consistency in candidate selection process, to deliver a higher return on hiring investment with reduced attrition and disruption risk to the organization.
“Why we are doing what we are doing?”
As Simon Sinek would ask, “Why you are doing what you are doing”? We would like to say…
We believe, the World’s greatest inventions -- The Wheel, Light Bulb, Steam Engine, Aeroplane, Television, iPhone -- were made by people who were driven and loved doing what they did.
We believe, every organization to be highly successful, needs people who are driven and love doing what they do and feel part of the organization.
We believe, people who fit into the culture of the organization feel part of the organization.
And… we believe, technology can help address the long-prevailing issue of finding the right fit candidate and do it scientifically.
At CherriPicking, we dream to eliminate wrong hiring and the pain and despair that everyone -- employee, organization and the family members of the employee has (have) to go through because of a hiring gone wrong.
How we do it?
Personality and psychometric tests have been used for a long time and continue to be popular for hiring and development purposes. There are hundreds of psychometric / personality tests that are available -- free and paid and some organizations have created their own questionnaires as well, that provide the personality assessment of a candidate and being used for deciding on which candidate to hire. However, we see a few challenges with these:
1. Time-consuming
2. Expensive
3. When used as a hiring tool, candidates try to pass the test and there are several websites that provide such guidance
4. Doesn’t help in filtering and sorting if you receive hundreds of CVs
The Alternative: With the increase in internet penetration and constant interaction with digital devices we create tons of data and leave digital footprints. We believe (and various researches, like this one, have proved) these digital footprints can be used (in fact, already being used) to create and predict personality of an individual with high degree of accuracy.
Using a proprietary model and tool combining psychology, data science and machine learning, CherriPicking analyzes public data (information from social media, articles, blogs, resume and other public resources) to predict the culture and environment of an organization, fits and misfits, and the personality and preferred working environment of a candidate, to give a match score and actionable insight for informed decision making.
All of this is done scientifically making use of the algorithm WITHOUT any need for SURVEYS and QUESTIONNAIRE subject to Minimum Secondary Data (MSD) criteria being met. i.e., minimum data needed is available from secondary sources.
We evaluate 10+ sources and 30+ parameters (your connections, structure of the CV, the language used, Facebook posts & likes etc.) for our prediction.
CherriPicking helps bring:
1. Predictability & Consistency in hiring right fit
2. Efficiency in terms of time & effort
3. Higher Return on Hiring Investment (Higher-ROHI)
4. Objectivity & Unbiasedness
At the end
We have received encouraging feedback from industry professionals that what we are doing is very interesting and exciting and if it can be cracked, it will help many. We have also been warned that it’s not been done and not going to be easy. Well, we accept and appreciate both comments and we move forward working to make this a reality.
